Swatch Telecom  Biel/Bienne, Switzerland

Swatch Telecom AG

Product Packaging, 1998

In Europe, Swatch designed and marketed more than just their famous watches. In the late 90’s, they also sold a range of telecom and products such as telephones, answering machines and pagers.

This is a two-piece package for the German and American market versions of the Swatch 'Beep Box' pager. The outer shell is made of 0.7mm PVC sheet which was litho printed in six colors.

The inner structure is a single sheet of printed E-flute corrugated cardboard, which forms a strong container that holds the product firmly in place by means of folds and die-cut slotting .

The package and all of its contents: User manuals, registration card, belt clip, lanyard, battery and a pad of contact cards.

The Swatch ‘Twinphone’ corded telephone, ‘Beep Box’ pager, Cordless telephone and the ‘Swatch Record’ answering machine.

Initial Design Sketches

Packaging is intended to be playful and eye-catching on retail store shelves. Many forms of the outer shell design were considered, and materials had to be recyclable and sustainable.
